Frequently Asked Questions

What is your style?

The best way to classify Grato Photography’s style is intimate, clean, and authentic. Since the overarching goal is to capture the true essence of the subject, any and all elements that prominently detracts from the subject’s true flair are excluded.

How long have you been a photographer?

Most of my early photographic career was spent photographing events with family and friends. Although I have been fortunate enough to have taken a photography class in high school, it was only until college, where I gained a true appreciation for the art and science of photography. Starting off with a Pentax manual film camera and college classmates, family and friends serving as willing subjects, I began to hone my craft and sharpened my skills. Many long weekends were spent hand-processing rolls of black-and-white film reels in a secluded campus film lab. My then best friend, now husband gifted me my first DSLR over a decade ago and that gift truly revolutionized my practice. Over the course of my photographic career, I have also undertook personal projects that involved photojournalism, documentary, product and nature photography. -K. Agard-Thomassine
